The work embodies Christopher Windley Lonsdale, founder of Shawnigan Lake School (1916). He stands with one foot forward, contemplating his next step as Headmaster of a rural boarding school. Lonsdale stands looking out over the campus with determination in his countenance. At attention to his left is his ever-present German shepherd, exuding anticipation for what lies ahead. The sculpture depicts Lonsdale in his mid 40s, shortly after the ‘rebirth’ of the school brought about by the devastating fire of 1926. C.W. Lonsdale is dressed in era attire and in a pose reminiscent of pictures taken of him in those years.
Images shown are of the 1/3 life scale maquette completed for Founder’s Day, October 2010.
